100324_LVML_PCsingle_SIG_625The newly founded interdepartemental Landscape Visualization and Modeling Lab (LVML) constitutes a competency center for research projects and applications for state-of-the-art technologies in the area of landscape visualization and modeling. Under the patronage of the Chairs for Landscape Architecture (Ch. Girot, ILA) and Planning of Landscape and Urban Systems (A. Grêt-Regamey, IRL), a lab could be established that researches new methods for the depiction, modeling and visualization of large-scale landscapes.

To this end, various software and hardware solutions are combined experimentally, for example the use of a 3D landscape scanner with 2 km range, in order to investigate new boundaries of perception and illustration of the built environment. Professional partnerships to the developers of software and hardware solutions as well as experts in the areas of landscape and urban planning allow for hands-on examination and implementation in the various research areas.

For the students of the Chair in the regular design semester and in the postgraduate program in landscape architecture (MAS LA), the technology of the labs provides an innovative complement to the theoretical and practical discourse on public space in the contemporary city and large-scale projects in the landscape.
