TheoryLab

Research Focus
The research of the TheoryLab is centered on the history and theory of landscape architecture of the 20th century in Switzerland in light of a changing understanding of nature and landscape. The TheoryLab carries out academic basic research. It contributes towards a reflected understanding of landscape today.
Research Options
The doctoral research in the TheoryLab usually takes place within the framework of the doctoral degree at the ETH Zurich. Postdoctoral research is possible within the framework of a habilitation or independent research work. Also possible is other research, for example in the framework of publication projects.
Research Approaches
In past years, the monographic depiction of the life and work of important Swiss landscape architects of the 20th century formed the basis of research. This approach is complemented by research that transcends themes, for example on the portrayal of nature at garden expositions.
Research Archive
An important research resource are the bequests of the Swiss landscape architects Gustav and Peter Ammann, Theodor, Otto and Robert Froebel as well as Dieter Kienast (Depositum) stored in the gta Archive (NSL Archive) of the ETH Zurich. Other bequests are stored in the Archive for Swiss Landscape Architecture in Rapperswil.
