Christophe Girot is Full Professor at the Chair of Landscape Architecture at the Department of Architecture of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). His research addresses three fundamental themes: New topological methods in landscape design, new media in landscape analysis and perception, recent history and theory of landscape design. Emphasis is placed on the fields of action in contemporary large-scale urban landscape with a particular attention given to sustainable design.
Christophe Girot received a double Masters in Architecture and in Landscape Architecture at University of California at Berkeley. He has taught studios amongst others at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, the Royal School of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, the Institute for Urban Design in Stuttgart and at the ETSAB in Barcelona. In 1980, he was named professor at the Department of Landscape Design at the École Nationale Supérieure du Paysage in Versailles, France. He later became chairman of that department.
Mr. Girot practices landscape architecture in Zurich. His built projects include Invaliden Park in Berlin, as well as several projects in and around Paris. His work has been published and exhibited in several countries including “Groundswell”, the first exhibition on Landscape Architecture at the MoMA in New York, and the exhibition on European Landscape at Harvard. His current projects include the 80 hectares Parco di Castello in Florence, the 18 hectare Deposito di Sigirino for AlpTransit in Tessin and a garden for a large resort in Marrakesh.
Christophe Girot is on the curatorial board of the IBA Hamburg 2013 which is developing topics on the future of the coastal metropolis with main themes such as flood control, sustainable urban and landscape development and education.
